Beautiful video of the life and death of a jellyfish. Wonderfully done by Henry Kaiser and Rob Robbins. The species is Desmonema glaciale. This genus occurs only in the colder regions of the southern ocean.
One question that may come up– what is the small crab atop the jelly’s bell? A parasitic hyperiid amphipod. These guys drive me nuts! Every time I collect a jelly with them I take my time to pick every last one off. They look like they’d be so irritating.
